OnHealthy

We are calling upon you for help with one of the most critically important – and expensive – types of medical equipment we have at our hospitals, equipment that is critical to our ability to serve the health needs of the people of Fraser Valley.
The CT Scanners at Chilliwack General Hospital and our two scanners at Abbotsford Regional Hospital are very near the end of their useful life. These scanners are used 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Over 30,000 Abbotsford patients and some 13,500 Chilliwack patients undergo scans annually.
How important are CT Scanners to our ability to provide the best available care to our communities? Well, they’re critical.
When a doctor sees an abnormality on a test such as an x-ray or ultrasound, they will order a CT scan to get a better look and to more deeply assess the situation.
Doctors also order CT scans to check for specific symptoms such as back pain or dizziness. Importantly, CT scans are extremely apt for quickly examining people who may have internal injuries from car accidents or other types of trauma.
CT examinations are fast and simple. In emergency cases, they often reveal internal injuries and/or bleeding quickly enough to help save the person’s life.
If you have undergone a CT scan for some reason, then you know that we cannot do without this life-saving technology.
We need to raise $1 million per CT Scanner…
So what is a CT Scanner?
A computerized tomography (CT) or computerized axial tomography (CAT) scan combines data from several X-rays to produce a detailed image of structures inside the body. CT scans produce 2- dimensional images of a “slice” or section of the body, though the data can also be used to construct 3- dimensional images.
As you can imagine, this is expensive technology, and it is also costly to maintain. A single CT Scanner will cost $2,000,000-$3,000,000 including the necessary renovation costs required to support and house it.
That’s why we are conducting this CT Scanner fundraising campaign. We at the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation have made a commitment to raise $1,000,000 for each hospital in support of this endeavour, for a total need of $2,000,000.
With renovations at each hospital planned to begin in early 2019, and scheduled to be completed by summer, the balance of 2018 is critical to ensuring that the needed funds are in place. That’s where you come in. One of the joys I have of working with the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation is knowing that our communities are filled with likeminded people like yourself who deeply care about our health care facilities and capabilities throughout the Valley.
Your gifts are truly gifts of health and life. You help us provide the people, programs and tools that make our hospitals and health care teams among the best. Every dollar you give makes a tremendous impact on every single patient, young and old.
Helping us make sure that our hospitals continue to have the best-available CT Scanning technology so intrinsic to the quality of care our patients receive is another way you can make an impact for patients and their families — your loved ones — when it’s needed most.
Would you please continue your support with a donation towards your local hospital’s CT Scanner Fundraising campaign? Of course, your support in any amount will be more than welcome. And may I ask you to please make your donation urgently? The more funds we can have in place sooner, the more confident we can be as we approach the beginning of 2019 and the start of the costly renovations that must be made.
Thank you, and we look forward to your support!
