Mammography Unit at Chilliwack General Hospital
Chilliwack General Hospital (CGH) will soon be offering new state-of-the-art mammography. This health care advancement is another example of Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation’s (FVHCF) commitment to the quality of health care in our community.
Mammography machines are an essential diagnostic tool for detecting breast cancer, which is the most common cancer among Canadian women. On average 76 women in Canada will be diagnosed with breast cancer every day and 15 women will die from breast cancer every day.
“Mammography is a very important screening tool for early breast cancer detection,” said Liz Harris Executive Director FVHCF. “Which is why we have committed to raise $395,000 for the new equipment”.
The current equipment needs replacement and the mobile screening clinic is currently serving CGH as well. It is the expectation that the new machine will positively influence wait times though faster and more efficient scans by means of its enhanced technology as the new mammography equipment features advances in breast imaging and digital mammography.
“Having a new Mammogram Machine at CGH will reduce wait and travel times for those going to Abbotsford and earlier diagnosis will mean better outcomes for most patients.” Explained Harris.
If you would like to donate to support the new mammography at CGH, you can visit the website at www.fvhcf.ca/donate, call 1-877-661-0314 or in person at their CGH office. All funds raised in Chilliwack go to support healthcare in Chilliwack.
